What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an injectable filler used to add volume to the face. It can improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and add volume to the cheeks and lips. Made from a substance called poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic form of lactic acid which is a natural substance produced by the body during exercise, The poly-L-lactic acid is injected into the deep layers of the skin using a fine needle. The injection process takes just a few minutes and is relatively painless.
While this is a long-lasting filler, it is not permanent. Effects typically last for two to three years before another treatment is needed to maintain the results. This injectable treatment has been used in Europe since 1999 and was approved by the FDA in 2004. It is sometimes referred to as the "liquid facelift" because it can provide similar results to a surgical facelift without the need for surgery.
